I’ve let my portfolio go stale

and I’m pretty sure it’s costing me money and clients.

who has the time?

I’ve been avoiding it for a while, and everytime I think about even attempting to update it, I wanna barf.

Four years ago, I created the portfolio I have now, and at the time, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. I spent the next few years growing my business and achieving my goals.

I used that portfolio to attract the type of people I wanted to work with, and the projects that really satisfied my creative appetite. I was proud to show it off, knowing it showcased the very best of what I was capable of…until it didn’t.

As creatives, our skills naturally improve the more we use them. If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for the next challenge to learn something new, or the next opportunity to refine what you can already do.

While your portfolio should serve you for a while, there will come a point where it no longer reflects the very best of what you do, and it’ll start costing you money and clients.

I mean, it’s great that I’ve been busy, but my portfolio desperately needs to be updated.

Maybe you’re the same

I totally get it. Updating your portfolio can feel super overwhelming.

You start to wonder….

  • How many different pieces should I put in?
  • What do my ideal clients actually care about?
  • Should I include projects I didn’t enjoy?
  • What’s the best way to present it?
  • Is there stuff I should leave out?
  • Should I include any other information?

Any time you think you’re ready to sit down and just do it, another million questions pop into your head and you end up avoiding it all together.

Eventually, you end up stuck.

The wrong clients are the only ones who find you, and you feel like stale bread is the only thing on the menu.

There’s little worse than losing a client enquiry because you were too embarrassed to send you portfolio (been there)

When it comes time to actually make contact and work your persuasive magic, you end up feeling embarrassed because you know your portfolio just isn’t going to win you this job.

Perhaps the most frustrating part is knowing that you do have the skills for it, but because your portfolio is outdated, you’ve got no real way of proving that.

While you have nothing to be embarrassed about, the longer you put it off, the longer it’ll be festering away, dropping stink bombs on your creative opportunities.

I know this feeling, cos mines outdated too

Hello creative freelancer!

If we’ve not met before, most people know me as Jaz, my students know me as the Pricing Queen, and my dog Chorizo is indifferent unless I’m holding a carrot.

For the last few years, I’ve been helping freelance creatives find pricing confidence, know their worth, and charge their value. My entire Creative Business Kitchen is stocked with helpful resources that help freelance creatives find their own unique flavour of success.

From how to find hungry clients, to email templates that break up with a client, dishing the dirt from my own years in the biz is what helps me sleep at night. If you’re in a creative business pickle, you’ll find the saving ingredients inside my kitchen.

One of the great things about teaching is knowing I have to practice what I preach. I’m setting aside time to move my business forward and serve a fresh folio to future clients….

I’m inviting you to join me for

As soon as you sign up, you’ll get access to the first lesson and a selection of course content. You’ll be a Bread Basket member of The Freelancer’s Pantry, so will have access to additional business resources (that aren’t served as part of this course).

Each week, you’ll receive all of your course content as well as the opportunity to ask questions and connect with other diners.

While it’s not a requirement, you’ll get the most out of this class if you have a URL and basic website set up already. This class won’t cover how to technically set up a website, purchase domains, etc. You can sign up for this course without having an existing website, but you’ll want to get one set up as soon as class begins.

There’s also a lesson in week one with recommendations of platforms and how to start from scratch.

The Freelancer’s Pantry is my online membership platform, full of resources to help you build a thriving freelance business. The Pantry has three membership options, with varying prices and inclusions. Inside the Pantry you’ll find articles, mini guides, templates, flow charts, calculators, and much more. The Freelancer’s Pantry is housed with Heartbeat, meaning you can access it right from an app on your phone (or desktop or browser). It’s a place to chat, connect, and access all of the resources served up within the Creative Business Kitchen.

It’s also where our live calls will be held, as well as the private chat and all course content. This may just be the most well stocked freelancer membership out there.

The Portfolio Al Dente course content will be available in The Freelancer’s Pantry until 6th June 2024. Your ticket includes a Bread Basket level membership to The Freelancer’s Pantry, so you’ll continue to have access to the benefits of that indefinitely. That membership continues unless you actually cancel it (and honestly, why would you….).
